What's Behind That Old Door?

Texas is filled with old barns. Remnants of our rural past stand vigil over the land that is being abandoned daily. Often surrounding these old relics of days gone by is the farm equipment waiting to rust into the ground. I wonder how many times the farmer who once lived here walked through that door to retrieve something? This barn area is located adjacent to St. Mary's Church in Plantersville, Texas. If you have a chance go to see the church. It is beautiful on the inside.

Contented in the Bonnets

All that was needed was a half pint of Bluebell any flavor! For any non-Texans, Bluebell Ice Cream is "cream filled goodness" often the one singular thing missed by Texans who have left the state. This cow simply turned her head, looked at me, and in my head I heard her saying "Don't you wish you could be here right now?"

Field of Texas Dreams

It's that time of the year in Texas. God help all the little kids in their spring finery in the itchy bluebonnets. It is a rite of passage here..much like baptism, pick-ups, and rodeo. Between Bellville and Industry take any side road and be amazed. You have to get off the regular traveled roads.

Painted Church-Praha

This church in located in Praha, named after the historical capital of Prague. This area is home to an area of concentrated descendants of Czech immigrants. Adjacent to the church is a wonderful, European style cemetery of wonderful gravestones in Czech. The interior is also beautiful. Praha is located about 5 miles Southeast of Schulenberg, Texas.

The Painted Churches as so named due to the brilliant painting inside the sanctuaries. If one has ever travelled to Germany/Braveria, they will recognize the wonderful style of painting on every aspect of the interiors.

In the fifties and sixties when cars were big enough to hold anywhere from two to twelve with three in the trunk, drive-ins were the primary entertainment for teenagers. Who cared about bad sound quality? No one was listening! These old theatres were some of the first to use neon in all of its glory. "American Graffitti" anyone?

Old Beauty, Courthouse-Lockhart, Texas

Lockhart is the home of Texas barbeque. However, it also has an incredible downtown area that takes the visitor back to the late 1800's. The courthouse is the centerpiece of this great town just about an hour from Austin, Texas.
